A visit to Pearl Harbour is a must when on O’ahu and that’s where we went yesterday.
The memorial to the USS Arizona is thought provoking and moving when you know it rests on top of the ship that was sunk with over 900 men buried with it. When you look over the side of the memorial you can still see some parts of the ship not far from the surface of the water. Some of the survivors from that fateful day, Dec 7th 1941, who have subsequently died, have also had their ashes buried within the wreckage.
USS Bowfin Submarine
We took a tour of the USS Bowfin submarine, somehow it made me think of all those US war films which showed every Sunday afternoon at around 2:30pm. I have no idea how men went to see on these things for months at a time. I think it would have driven me crazy.
The controls inside (wheels, and levers and gauges) were everywhere and were a Steampunk nerds heaven!
