Solar power in a sunny climate?
There is something odd which has struck me.
We have so far been to Bermuda, L.A. Hawaii and now Tahiti, and I have to say considering the one constant for all these destinations is sunlight, lots of it, the evidence of solar power (that I have seen) is minimal. For most of the places there are smatterings here and there and Maui does have some wind turbines but the U.K. has vastly more Solar than all of these places put together.
In fact, within 10 miles of my house there is vastly more solar than I have seen in the last 3 weeks.
We are currently in Tahiti, have today toured the entire island (120km). I have not seen a single Solar Panel on a house, or in fact anywhere.
Post Update: Really interesting. There is a Hydro Dam on Tahiti, but this does not fulfill all requirements here, for the rest of the power required and for most of the islands in French Polynesia, the power is generated by diesel generators (yes, the whole island from centrally located generators). Showers and cookers are run off refillable gas bottles (Same as run a gas BBQ).
really weird, as we have so much less sun than where you are!
