Into the rainforest

Daintree rainforest is billed as one of  the world’s oldest rainforests. We decided to skip the guided tours and make up our own road trip.

Mossman Gorge

We started with Mossman Gorge. This gives you a track right up in to the rainforest itself.

North to Daintree Village

We go further north to Daintree village for a sport of lunch, Daintree village is a tiny little place really not much going on there.

Although they do have a very big fish there.

North again up to Cape Tribulation.

The road as we know it runs out at Cape Tribulation, from then on it’s only a track. To actually get to Cape Tribulation it’s miles of weaving roads through the rainforest once we’ve got over the Daintree river – no bridge, just a chain ferry.

Cape Tribulation

These photos won’t really do it justice, but this is not just another beach. The atmosphere is otherworldly. Not sure why this is, it’s almost as if you can feel the weight of the rainforest looming overhead. From the signs around there are clearly Stingers and Crocodiles but you get the impression anything could come out of the bush around the beach (either that or I have been watching too much Jurassic Park).
