Once you’ve figured out that you can actually walk about Hanoi without having some kind of terrible accident it’s straightforward getting about. Interesting vibe to the place.
For trips further out cabs (like everything here) are inexpensive, just fix a price beforehand as everything here is up for negotiation.
There are some really old buildings right in the middle of commercial areas, so it’s easy to stumble into something surprising.
Buildings in Hanoi are interesting. They are ‘Tube Houses’ Essentially densely packed accomodation in Cities. Some have obvious French influence. They are referred to as tube houses, as they are very narrow, tall and go back very far. In a lot of instances, the first room at the front of the house is used as a commercial premises.
Even here you can buy, in the countries first (only?) shopping mall, Louis Vuitton, Louboutins and all the hyper luxury brands. Around the corner from a Rolls Royce showroom.
Kids here learn young how to deal with traffic conditions.
Other then the architecture not much French influence here – we did stumble across this beautiful Citroen Traction Avant though.

What ?!!!! Louis vuitton 😩😩😩 did you go in and check out the prices?
There are loads of designer shops here, didn’t go in though as they were empty except for staff and security!!!
