Landing in Da Nang, in central Vietnam we are met for transfer to our hotel in Hoi An, interesting to see how it compares to Hanoi after the relative peace of Halong Bay.
Landing in Da Nang, you can already see this is very different to Ha Noi and northern Vietnam. Much smaller, of course, the city, despite being in the Demilitarized zone during the civil war was pretty much destroyed and and a more modern city was born.
The trip from Da Nang to Ha Noi takes around 45 mins, right along the coast road, which was a very surprising ride. Some of the resorts there are huge, bigger than resorts I have seen anywhere on this trip. Apparently a lot have been built using Chinese money as around 30% of tourists to the area are from there. There are even a few casinos, totally illegal for local people built with the Chinese tourist in mind.
We get to our hotel, which is a little outside Hoi An town itself but very pleasant. Even ignoring the dysfunctional psychopathic couple who insisted on screaming at each other all night long.
