Out and About in Saigon

Saigon is very different from Hanoi. A much younger city with a lot of the centre designed and built by the French. It gives off an air of optimism.

Busy but nothing like Hanoi

Unfortunately Notre Dame cathedral was closed for renovations, but I managed to get mobbed by North Vietnamese people who wanted to have their photo taken with me just outside. Clearly we are that famous!

At the Cu Chi tunnels our guide had told us many men to avoid conscription cut their own index fingers off so they could not shoot a gun and be conscripted. Sure enough one of the middle aged men asking for a photo was one of the nine fingered.

The post office was beautiful.

We soon settled on a favourite bar – just down the road from the hotel.
