The Royal Naval Dockyards

I know Gandalf says never use the precious, but we made full use of the transport system today. We took a trip down to the Royal Naval Dockyards, caught the ferry back to Hamilton, then took another trip right to the other end of the island – St. Georges.

The Royal Naval Dockyards is a beautiful site, the buildings are now primarily a very pretty shopping centre and the site itself it home to the Americas Cup.

Lots of great historical information on Bermuda, the development of the island and the slave trade.

The Commissioner’s House

The house itself has been part of a major restoration project, sadly a lot of this seems to need to be redone every 3 years or so, as it seems to be a magnate for Hurricane Destruction.

St George

After getting the ferry back from Dockyard to Hamilton, we jumped on a bus to the other side of the island headed for St. George. There are only 2 official towns in Bermuda and St. George is the other one. It used to be the island capital, and is now a world heritage site.

St. George Town Hall

Not a lot to do there, and we were a bit ‘all done’ by then so we had a quick mooch, a couple of beers and headed home.
