A 4 hour drive from Hanoi takes us to Halong Bay. That’s quite a way on Vietnam roads in a small bus, but needs must. Halong Bay is a must see.
Quite a tiring bus trip to Halong bay on what can only be described as a pretty miserable Hanoi morning. We have been used to weather 30 degrees + and today it’s down to 10.
We get to Halong bay to a bit of Chaos. There are apparently storms coming in to the bay and none of the boats are allowed to overnight out there and would have to retun to dock at 6pm.
As everyone was to overnight on the boat, what we now have are loads of people with nowhere to stay. The captain of the boat assures everyone he’ll organise something, we were lucky in that our travel agents called us and we had a hotel and transfer back in Hanoi waiting.
Cabins are great. Almost the same size as our hotel in Singapore!
Halong Bay is an amazing place. Haunting, beautiful, if you’re in northern Vietnam it’s almost a ‘must do’.
Stopped off at some islands and caves along the way.
Luckily as the day progressed the weather eased somewhat and we were able to overnight in the bay, and continued cruising in the morning. Met some great people on board, and ended up hopelessly drunk on the boat.
From Halong Bay, it’s another 4 hour drive back to Hanoi where we are transferred to the airport for our trip to Hoi An
