Schoolboy French Failure

Had an epic schoolboy French failure the first night we were here…..

First night we checked in and hit the restaurant, pretty much only French spoken by most staff there. No problem, my schoolboy French has served me well, but there was a point where it fell apart completely.

Joan was ordering ‘Poisson du Jour’ no problem with that, fish of the day. However there was a choice of 2 fish we could have as this dish. Here was the problem. Both fish were Tahitian local fish and we had no clue what they were.

I could not get across with my schoolboy french; ‘Yes, we know what fish of the day means, but we don’t know what either of these fish are’. In the end we were rescued by a nice young girl who did a pinocchio impression after saying one of the fish names, so we assumed it was Tuna/Marlin/Sailfish type fish, we went for that. No idea what the second choice was.
